Samory Touré (born in 1830) was a military leader who founded a powerful kingdom in West Africa and resisted French colonial expansion in the late 19th century. He died while in captivity in 1900. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find much information about locs in that time or in that particular culture, but I thought I was still share. You can read more about him here: http://www.blackpast.org/?q=gah/toure-samori-1830-1900
